Atmel Licenses ARM1176JZF-S Processor


Extends Atmel's Roadmap of Upwards-compatible ARM Technology-based on 32-bit Microcontrollers from the ARM7 Family through to the ARM9 and ARM11 Families

Rousset, France – April 9, 2007 - Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced today that Atmel has licensed the ARM1176JZF-S™ processor for implementation in high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) products.

The ARM1176JZF-S core clocks at up to 620MHz in 90nm technology, while achieving a power consumption as low as 0.45 mW/MHz. It features ARM TrustZone® technology for enhanced security, ARM Jazelle® technology for efficient embedded Java execution, and ARM Intelligent Energy Manager (IEM™) technology that can reduce processor energy consumption by 25% to 50%. ARM TrustZone technology provides support within the processor architecture for the trusted computing environments required to protect critical system functions from downloaded applications, copyright protection of downloaded media, and secure over-the-air system upgrades. The ARM1176JZF-S also features an integrated floating-point co-processor, which makes it particularly suitable for embedded 3D-graphics applications. The core runs the ARMv6 instruction set with media processing extensions and the Thumb® instruction set extensions for compact code. It is fully upward code-compatible with Atmel's existing licensed cores, the ARM7TDMI® and the ARM926EJ-S™ processors.

Atmel, a member of the ARM Connected Community, has also licensed the PrimeCell® high-performance AMBA® 3 AXI™ interconnect technology (PL301), along with the AMBA Designer tool, for a next generation on-chip bus development.

Availability

Atmel's first system-on-chip products based on the ARM1176JZF-S processor will be available 4Q 2007.

Смотря чего от процессора хочется. Сразу "умного и красивого" обычно не бывает
ИМХО, для коммуникационных приложений очень хороши интеловские IXP42x. Для мультимедийных - фрискейловские iMX31 и те же Самсунги 24xx. Это все не совсем голословно - я все эти "апельсины" не так давно выбирал и ел (только с iMX не сложилось - заказчик уперся)
Да, еще, может не стоит только на ARM-ах зацикливаться? Вон, например, в сфере коммуникаций фрискейл недавно ядерную бомбу вбросил - MPC8313 - 2xGbE+USB HS+PCI32@66+DDR - "в одном флаконе" за 15$.

А какая будет доступность у этой "бомбы"? Так же как у MAC7xxx - 2 семпла федексом а потом мин. заказ тысяч в много с ожиданием в 40 недель?

На свете есть много чего, что могут себе позволить конторы с миллионными тиражами, но что заказано для мелких/средних фирм.

Квалкомм, например, регулярно рожает чипы, от которых у некоторых тут слюнки потекут, даже с учетом того что половину внутренних модулей придется отключить, но вот недоступны они абсолютно.

Но точно знаю, что если брать упаковками, которыми отпускает производитель, то можно попробовать напрямую осуществить поставку, либо через представительство. Один из многочисленных местных производственников напрямую с Атмела тянет какую-то детальку. Думаю, что то же самое можно и с другим производителем провернуть. Все зависит от руководства отдела комплектации, насколько оно умеет считать деньги и время.

Как бы снабженцы на умели считать и уговаривать, ни нормоупаковку, ни 50 нормоупаковок упомянутого чипа скорее всего вам получить не удастся. Потому как это отделение фрискейла _вообще_ не интересует мелкий заказчик. Абсолютно. А мелкий - это по их понятиям мельче какого нибудь Фольксвагена.

Когда я уже совсем было на него заложился, и пора было платы устройства разводить и заказывать на опытную партию, меня что то дернуло загодя закупить через московское представительство сотенку-другую чипов на эту самую опытную партию (помня всегдашние проблемы моторолы с allocation и бешеными сроками). Вот тут то вся подноготная и вскрылась. Менеджер местный и рад бы был помочь, но не мог, ничем, кроме еще пары семплов.
