This is a waveguide device for satellite communication. It’s excited with a monofrequent sinus of high power. The power can be set in the excitation list as in MWS. In the small gap the mean free path of the particles, the frequency of the electromagnetic field and the energy of the particles after acceleration by the field could match, so that one existing particle can amplify themselves and result in an avalanche effect. This avalanche effect can be seen by the exponential increase of the number of particles per time. Also you can quite nicely identify in the trajectory the field distribution shown on the left hand side. The particles started with a very low energy, because that shouldn’t matter. They just have to be there.
